SS Belgic
Four ships of the White Star Line have been named SS ''Belgic'': * (I) was a cargo steamer launched in 1873, chartered to the Occidental and Oriental Steamship Company in 1875, sold and renamed ''Goefredo'' in 1883 and wrecked in 1884. * (II) was a cargo steamer launched in 1885 and sold to the Atlantic Transport Line in 1899 and renamed ''Mohawk''. *SS ''Belgic'' (III) was launched as the freighter "SS Mississippi" on the 15 Dec 1902 for Atlantic Transport Line and transferred on 7 July 1906 to the Red Star Line as "SS Samland" . On 30 Aug 1911 she was transferred again, this time to the White Star Line and renamed "SS Belgic", doing the Liverpool - Australia - Wellington service with emigrants for two years. In December 1913 she returned to the Red Star Line as "SS Samland" for North Atlantic cargo sailings. She did war service and was finally scrapped in April 1931. * (IV) was a passenger liner launched in 1914. She was transferred to the Red Star Line in 1923 and renamed .
